Flags of the 12th Regiment of Indiana Infantry Volunteers

These flags are preserved at the Indiana World War Memorial in Indianapolis, Indiana

A Composite of all four surviving flags

The first issued national colors. Notice the lack of detail on the photograph. It's not the photograph that lacks detail, It's the flag! So little is left of the flag that the remaining fragments were sewn onto a wool bunting background. The remaining bits are in the upper left corner (lighter in shade than the background) and some of the fringe.

The first issue regimental colors. Not much left here either. There is some speculation about the source of damage to the first issue flags. This is the reverse side of the flag. Since it is sewn to a wool field it's not possible to see the other side.

This is the last issue national colors. It is notable that there is no regimental designation in the red band under the blue field.

The last issue regimental colors listing all the battle honors of the regiment. An astute viewer will notice no mention on this flag of Richmond, Kentucky. The regiment was captured almost to a man in this engagement and the men probably did not want to be reminded of this.
